Online Safety- tips and advice

Online Safety – helping your child stay safe

It's never easy to know how to keep our children safe when they aren't with us, and sometimes even when they are, if we don't know what's happening in their lives or on their devices!

Who are they talking to, what are they doing, are they okay?

The best way to help your child to be safe when using the internet and new technologies is to talk to them and make sure they understand the main simple rules.  Make sure your child feels able to talk to you, let them know that it’s never too late to tell someone if something makes them feel uncomfortable. Don’t blame your child, let them know you trust them.

Talk to your child regularly about what they’re doing online and how to stay safe. Let them know they can come to you or another trusted adult if they’re feeling worried or upset by anything they have seen.
