Smart School Council-Children as leaders
At Manford we believe that every child has a right to be heard, therefore we have adopted an innovative way to approach our school council which ensures every child has a voice.
Class council meetings happen every 2 weeks in classes and involves pupils debating in groups about a topical question that has been posed to the whole school. Children unanimously choose an option to answer the question, the winning choice across the school is then actioned in order to improve life at the school or work together on a particular project.

Children from Year 2 are able to join 'action groups' to lead on school projects. In 2025/26 our action groups include
- Eco Action
- School Meals
- Rights Respecting
- Playground upgrade
There are lots of other ways to help in school too. We have play leaders who support at lunchtimes on the playground. We also have a team of 'buddies' who invest their time making sure our playground is fully inclusive for our pupils in the Hatton Special School satellite classes.
When you join Year 6 you may be able to become a prefect or even one of our special Ambassadors who work directly with the headteacher.
